It sounds corny, but designing websites is a passion for me. I'm simply in love with it. From the moment I learned my first bit of HTML I was hooked. I offer pre-built templates that I make because I enjoy doing it! I won't lie and claim to have years of experience with web design. I designed my first website in 2007 and began designing sites for friends a year later, so I'm relatively new compared to other designers. Perhaps my enthusiasm, talent, and professionalism can make up for that to some degree. That's for you to decide.
I'm a perfectionist with web design. No detail is too minute for me. If something is one pixel off, I take the time to fix it. I check all sites in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Opera to ensure it displays properly in all major browsers.
I see my design style as clean, simple, and sophisticated. If you want a flashy site then I'm definitely not the designer for you. Please browse my Templates and Portfolio to get an idea of my style to see if I'm the designer you'd like to work with.
What is valid code? All website code is regulated by W3C.org. Any web page can be run through W3C Markup Validation Service to check for errors. You may be surprised how many professional websites return code with multiple errors. If the website displays correctly for you, what's the problem if the code has errors? For one, it may not display correctly on all browsers. More importantly, though, is that invalid code is harder for search engines to read.
I currently design all websites using XHTML 1.0 transitional (in additional to Wordpress-based sites). This is the most current version of HTML in use today. The nature of XHTML is more search engine friendly than older HTML-based sites. My sites are designed with code kept as semantic as possible and shorthand CSS (cascading style sheets).
I keep use of Flash and Javascript to a minimum for two main reasons. First, Flash sites are terrible for SEO (search engine optimization). Second, there are more users out there than you may think who use either mobile phones or old computers with outdated operating systems and dial-up connections. A flash-based site will drive those visitors away. Flash sites can look gorgeous but I don't use flash beyond calendars and image display for these reasons.
I use flash for some photo galleries in order to protect your photos. Let's face it, your photos are an integral part of your website so they need to be displayed beautifully. The scripts I use are lightweight and quick loading so they won't slow your site down.
Another type of gallery I use employs light javascript for optimal image display. For small rollover images, I like to use javascript for smooth transitional effects.
If you google SEO, you'll find tons of sites that charge a ton for SEO tips, to submit your site to thousands of search engines and directories, and to make your site SEO friendly. With all due respect to these companies, this seems absurdly unnecessary in most cases. A correctly designed site and minimal search engine submissions will soon start to index high with search engines. That's why every site I make includes meta tags, page titles, general SEO-friendly design, and a Google Sitemap. I don't consider a website complete without including these vital steps.
One thing to remember about SEO is that it takes time for sites to start to index with search engines. It's been my experience that a correctly done website can list on the first page of google in as little as a week or up to six months, depending on how much text you have and the overall complexity of your website design (this isn't a guarantee due to Google's sometimes incomprehensible algorithms).
Plainly put, it's a virtually free way to advertise and how can that be bad? Many potential clients don't know where you may advertise, so they'll do a search for local entertainment. Wouldn't it be nice if your beautiful site came up on the first page of major search engines? It's a win-win situation when your designer builds your site with SEO in mind!
