3. Loading files to your site using cPanel

Once you've transferred nameservers, you can begin uploading files to your account. You can do so via FTP (file transfer protocol) or your cPanel file manager. An easy way for beginners to upload files is through cPanel. If you choose to use the FTP method, please see our cPanel Guide for FTP account setup instructions.

To upload file through your cPanel file manager.

  • To access file manager, login to your control panel and click "file manager"
  • A new window should load showing you a bunch of folders and some other files related to your account functioning correctly. Do not delete any of these files/folders. Ever.
  • To begin uploading, always go to the "public_html" folder. To do so, click the folder icon. Once clicked you will be in the main folder of your site where you can upload your content, create more folders, and delete whatever you want.
  • To upload, click "upload files". You will then click the browse button until you find the file on your computer that you wish to upload.
  • When you are done uploading you can click the "back" at the bottom of the screen to take you back to your main folders.

Note: For most websites, your images will go in a folder you'll create in public_html called images.

Editing files:

To edit a file just click on it.  The top menu will display options such as show file, delete file, edit file, change permissions, rename file, copy file, and move file.
